Mona Moxley King has come full circle in her life, with design and love of art continuously playing an important part. As a former Corporate Executive for Hanes and Corporate Vice President of a financial institution she returned to her design roots with Mona + Associates Design, LLC a multidisciplinary Environmental design firm that cultivates commercial and residential environments by utilizing interior architecture, branding and creative consulting. Design inspired by nature, biomimicry.
An artist and entrepreneur from an early age she attended Indiana University and earned a B.A. in Fine Art. Post college she created her own company to design and manufacture custom screen-printed heat transfers. Clients included Indianapolis Hoosier Dome (RCA), Circlefest, Black Expo and the Indianapolis Zoo.
In her career she has utilized her Design management skills for a Sports marketing company designing licensed athletic for Super Bowl, NBA Championships, NHL, MLB, NBA and major college tournaments.
Recruited by Hanes /Sara Lee, based in Winston-Salem, NC, she developed an internal design staff and systems to design and produce computer-generated designs for licensed apparel. She was charged with managing design and production for the Atlanta Olympics licensed apparel. Her role included working closely with licensors and contractors to ensure quality in production.
Leaving Hanes shortly after the Olympics, Mona + Associates Design was created to allow more hands-on design. The company was developed to provide quality design and marketing support for small business. She developed relationships with clients to this day are ongoing over 20 years.
Wanting to continue learning design technology advancements, she was accepted into the Interior Architecture Program at The University of North Carolina Greensboro - graduated magna cum laude with B.S. Interior Architecture. While a student she received the Award for Student Excellence and was on a First place winning team for Sustainable Home Design. Hired by a financial institution to design interiors she achieved Corporate Vice President of Facilities, coordination of design, construction and building services for 600+ locations in 5 states.
In January 2015, Mona + Associates Design, LLC; expanded services to include all of her career learning experiences and expertise. Services include branding, interior architecture, websites, creative consulting, product development and project management.
Mona is active in the community as a Board Member of Keep Winston-Salem Beautiful, LEED Certified and eligible for NCIDQ certification with IIDA. A new goal is to serve as a Consultant and advocate for Creatives seeking to cultivate their financial stability through product development and expanded opportunities.
She has been accepted into Arts Enterprise Lab in Spring 2016 and 2017, sponsored by University of North Carolina Schools of the Arts -Thomas S. Kenan Institute partnered with the Center for Creative Economy. The objective is to explore the creative entrepreneurship ecosystem in the Winston-Salem area in order to determine where critical needs and gaps exist, as well as where institutional alignments and opportunities can be identified. Participants work cooperatively on a challenge to be solved in the Winston-Salem creative community.
Mona is also conducting product development research and participating in a class in Biomimetics at Wake Forest University. The class focus is on biomimicry, entrepreneurship and product design. The possibilities are endless with continuous learning forever in the forefront.
Married to her college sweetheart, mother of 2 professional daughters that are continuing the design legacy through Architecture and theatrical design support, and grandparent of 2. She is always looking forward to the next opportunity to live, love, laugh and create.
